How per diem works
Lodging is a nightly maximum, reimbursed against actual cost and set per month for seasonal localities. M&IE is a flat daily allowance in one of five tiers ($68, $74, $80, $86, $92); the first and last day of travel are paid at 75%.
Travel nurses: the same rates cap tax-free housing and meal stipends, at (lodging + M&IE) × 7 a week, for a traveler with a qualifying tax home. See the travel nurse per diem guide.
