The Short Answer

Vivian's Dallas ER average is $47.31/hour. Turning that into a weekly number depends on 36 vs 40 hours. The FY2027 GSA ceiling for Dallas and a worked take-home example.

Search “ER travel nurse pay Dallas” and you get a mix of job listings and salary pages, each quoting a different kind of number: an hourly average on one, a weekly total on the next, a single posting’s estimated pay on a third. They look comparable. They are not.

Vivian’s Dallas emergency room travel salary page (last updated 6 October 2026, per the page) reports an average of $47.31/hour, “based on active jobs on Vivian.com.” That is the only figure the page states. It does not publish a weekly total, a range, or a count of jobs, so any weekly number you see built from it involves a choice of hours that the page did not make for you.

One Hourly Figure, Two Very Different Weeks

Hours per weekWeekly figure at $47.31/hour
36 (3×12, the usual ER travel contract)$1,703
40$1,892

(Arithmetic on Vivian’s published hourly average, read 6 October 2026. Vivian does not state weekly pay for this page; these are our multiplications, not its figures.)

The $189 gap is not market variation. It is four extra hours. If you are comparing a 36-hour offer to a weekly number that quietly assumes 40, the offer looks about 10% worse than it is. Before comparing anything, convert both to the same hours.

The hourly figure also blends two things. A travel pay package is usually a modest taxable hourly wage plus tax-free housing and meals stipends. An average built from active job postings is a blended total, so it says nothing about how much of the week is taxable, and the split drives your overtime rate and your tax. Blended Rate vs. Taxable Rate explains the mechanics.

Our own Dallas city guide carries an editorial estimate for the city. It is not measured from job postings or contract data, so treat it as a starting point, not a survey. The methodology page states which figures are sourced and which are ours.

The Government-Sourced Number: Dallas’s GSA Stipend Ceiling

One input to a Dallas offer is published by the federal government. For fiscal year 2027, effective 1 October 2026, the GSA per diem for Dallas is:

  • Lodging: $184/night, the same in every month (Dallas has no seasonal variation)
  • Meals & Incidental Expenses (M&IE): $80/day
  • Weekly housing ceiling (lodging × 7): $1,288
  • Weekly M&IE (× 7): $560
  • Combined weekly per diem ceiling: $1,848

Compare like with like: a housing stipend belongs against the $1,288 lodging ceiling, not the combined $1,848, which only applies if meals and incidentals are paid as well. The ceiling is a cap on what an accountable-plan stipend can pay a nurse with a valid tax home, not a typical stipend. Most packages sit well below it. Check any specific figure against GSA’s own per diem lookup for your dates, or use the GSA Rate Explorer.

Rent is the other side of the question. Our editorial estimate for a Dallas one-bedroom is about $1,400/month, which is not measured data either, so check current listings for your actual dates.

Worked Example: The Same $1,703 Week, Split Two Ways

Take Vivian’s hourly average at 36 hours ($1,703/week) and imagine two ways an agency could structure it. These are illustrations, not real offers. Both assume a single filer, a Texas tax home and assignment, the 2026 standard deduction, and income at this rate for a full year.

Package APackage B
Taxable rate × hours$28 × 36 = $1,008$34 × 36 = $1,224
Tax-free stipends$695$479
Gross weekly$1,703$1,703
Federal income tax≈ $79≈ $105
FICA≈ $77≈ $94
Take-home≈ $1,547≈ $1,505

Same headline, about $42 a week apart. The gap widens with overtime, which is paid on the taxable rate. Both stipends are under Dallas’s $1,288 housing ceiling here, so neither is the riskier package on that test. The federal figures use the 2026 brackets and standard deduction from IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32 and the FICA rates from SSA, the same sourced inputs the Pay Calculator uses. Texas levies no wage income tax, so none is subtracted.

That Texas result applies to a Texas tax home. If your permanent home is in a state that taxes residents on all income, that state may still tax a Dallas contract. Run your own combination through the calculator rather than assuming.

Turning a Specific Offer Into a Real Number

  1. Enter the offer’s taxable hourly rate, hours and stipends in the Pay Calculator, assignment state Texas.
  2. Check the housing stipend against $1,288 and housing plus M&IE against $1,848.
  3. Confirm the stipend is yours to receive. A stipend needs a valid tax home; the Tax Home Validator walks through the IRS tests.
  4. Grade the whole package with Contract Grade. It scores against Texas statewide pay data scaled by specialty, not a Dallas-specific figure.
  5. For the fine print a weekly headline never shows (guaranteed hours, cancellation terms), read How to Read a Travel Nurse Contract Offer.

For the specialty overall, see the ER travel nurse page; for the state picture, the Texas travel nurse pay guide. Houston readers: the ICU guide works the same method.

Data reviewed October 2026. GSA per diem figures come from GSA’s published FY2027 locality rates (see our methodology). Federal tax figures come from IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-32 and SSA. The hourly figure attributed to Vivian is that source’s own, as of the date shown. Our city and specialty pay estimates are editorial, not measured, surveyed or aggregated from contract data. This is general information, not tax advice.
